Thames River Boat Hire

Information

The rivers Thames in London is one of the most famous and well known rivers in all over the world. It runs straight through the centre of London and at 215 miles long (346 km) the rivers mouth is in Gloucestershire and goes to the North sea.

Due to the river running right through the centre of London it has 75 bridges across the non-tidal Thames and 29 bridges across the tidal Thames making the total of bridges at 104 allowing car and other road transport to get across. The difference at low and high tide is 7 meter (23 ft), for this reason the river Thames very rarely freezes over. However it has done so on various occasions earliest that was recorded was in 1150 AD.

The rivers flood plain is 896 km2 and to control the flow of the river so it does not flood it has 47 locks. You can travel down the river on barges for 191 miles (306 km) and in the main part of the river in central London you can get boat hire on the Thames which will allow you to see the sights from the river.
